Job Description
The position of Traffic Project Manager presents an exceptional opportunity to acquire invaluable public sector experience in traffic project management, interagency collaboration, and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) planning. These skills are pivotal in enhancing your eligibility for coveted roles within the public sector.
We are seeking an accomplished Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of expertise in traffic engineering and project management to provide support to a Traffic Division in Long Beach on a part-time basis (around 20 hours per week) through a hybrid work model combining on-site and remote work.
As the Traffic Project Manager, your responsibilities will encompass the comprehensive management and execution of various traffic-related projects and initiatives right from initial conception to final delivery. You will serve as the principal point of contact for design and construction consultants, supervise project budgets, engage in coordination with entities like Caltrans and nearby jurisdictions, and conduct on-site visits to facilitate planning, design, and construction processes. Key responsibilities of the Traffic Engineering Project Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating traffic studies to endorse infrastructure and safety enhancements.
- Formulating and assessing traffic control plans for diverse capital and upkeep projects.
- Spearheading the planning and execution of Capital Improvement Programs (CIP), involving cost estimation, budgeting, and schedule monitoring.
- Executing end-to-end project management for traffic-related endeavors, inclusive of:
- Supervising and coordinating with design consultants.
- Overseeing and collaborating with construction management consultants.
- Managing the issuance and monitoring of Purchase Orders (POs).
- Reviewing and processing invoices.
- Coordinating with external stakeholders such as Caltrans, neighboring municipalities, utility providers, and community organizations to ensure efficient project delivery and compliance with regulations.
- Undertaking site visits to:
- Evaluate future project requirements.
- Collect site-specific data to support design activities.
- Provide guidance to contractors during the construction phase.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
- At least eight (8) years of full-time experience in Traffic Engineering within the public sector
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license in California
- Proven track record of collaborating with Caltrans, local agencies, and other regional stakeholders
- Experience with Caltrans Grant Administration
- Experience with Local Assistance Procedures Manual paperwork and requirements
- Familiarity with administrative procedures specific to a municipal Traffic Division, including procurement and contract oversight
- Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without the need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
