The Senior Water Systems Operator selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in water operations and distribution that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a Senior Operator that has 5+ years of experience in water operations to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Signal Hill area. 

As a Senior Water Systems Operator, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Leads and trains a crew; assigns tasks and evaluates their work related to installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing the City’s water pumping, treatment, and distribution systems.
• Operates the City’s water system, collects water samples, and monitors storage facilities to maintain proper water levels.
• Oversees the City’s backflow prevention and cross-connection control programs, including inspections and ongoing monitoring.
• Prepares operations and maintenance reports and keeps records in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Identifies maintenance and repair needs, determines necessary actions, and coordinates with the supervisor to carry out work; also manages inventory and orders supplies when needed.
• Handles public service calls and complaints about water operations and determines the proper corrective actions.
• Responds to emergency water system issues and leads repair efforts; also handles water quality concerns and questions from the public.
• Regularly monitors water quality test results and overall system conditions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

As a Senior Water Systems Operator, you will have:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• At minimum 5 years of full-time experience in water operations and distribution in a municipal or private water company
• Must possess a California State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Operator Grade III (T3) Certificate and a California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade III (D3) Certificate
• Ability to assign, review, and coordinate the work of other employees and write performance appraisals.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
• Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
