Job Description

The Senior Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in municipal water system planning, design, and construction that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Engineer that has 6+ years of experience in water or wastewater engineering to work on-site and full-time (approximately 30-40 hours per week) in the Palmdale area. 

Projects may include:

  • Pure Water Program – Construction of an Advanced Water Treatment Facility

As a Senior Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering support during construction, including submittal review, RFI responses, inspector coordination, and punch-list walkthroughs.
  • Coordinate with utility providers and public agencies on project interfaces and relocations.
  • Support grant and funding efforts by preparing technical data, scope development, and cost estimates.
  • Review plans, maps, specifications, and reports for accuracy, format, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Manage in-house and consultant design for capital projects such as wells, reservoirs, booster stations, water mains, pressure regulating stations, and treatment facilities.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies (DWR, Division of Drinking Water, SCAQMD) to ensure reporting and compliance.
  • Conduct routine inspections of wells, pump stations, reservoirs, and other water system facilities.
  • Prepare bid documents, contracts, specifications, and cost estimates; administer contracts, review bids, process change orders, coordinate inspections, and approve progress payments.
  • Perform field surveys and engineering research to support reporting, compliance, and planning needs.
  • Coordinate SCADA system upgrades, training, integrator support, and troubleshooting.
  • Represent the District in meetings and project discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide supervision and staff training as assigned.

Job Requirements

As a Senior Engineer, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or other related Engineering field
  • At minimum, 6 years of progressively responsible professional municipal experience in water and/or wastewater engineering, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role
  • Strongly Preferred: Licensed California Professional Civil Engineer (PE)
  • Experience with the methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments, record keeping, and report preparation
  • Experience with SCADA systems, instrumentation, and control logic commonly used in municipal water systems
  • Experience with project delivery methods and construction phase processes including submittal review, change orders, and contract closeout
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
