Job Description

The Senior Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in public works capital improvement projects that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a Civil Engineer with 8+ years of experience in public works engineering to work on-site and part-time (approximately 25 hours per week) in the El Segundo area. 

As a Senior Civil Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and prepare specifications, drawings and contracts for a variety of complex public works projects such as street and street lighting improvements, storm water/wastewater drain systems, landscaping, and parks
  • Develop cost estimates, coordinate contractor bidding and selection processes, evaluate proposals and recommend awarding of contracts
  • Serve as contract administrator for public works projects; negotiate contract change orders; approve progress payments
  • Serve as project engineer during construction; conduct field inspections of construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications and construction and safety standards; meet with contractors to resolve items of non-compliance; make corrections or revisions to plans and prepares conditions of approval
  • Review development plans for private construction projects affecting the City right-of-way
  • Review and determine fees associated with development projects and issue permits and collect fees
  • Provide information and investigate complaints and service requests
  • Conduct technical studies and prepare reports and recommendations related to complex civil engineering projects and capital improvement projects
  • Reviews legal descriptions of real property
  • Performs survey work alone or as part of a survey crew
  • Reviews environmental assessments, environmental impact reports, tract and parcel maps, variances and conditional use permits
  • Provide professional assistance to the Principal Engineer, as necessary, in performing administrative functions

Job Requirements

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Required: Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to public works, and methods and techniques used in the preparation of engineering project designs and related plans and specifications
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
