The Senior Accounting Assistant selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in government fund accounting that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Accounting Assistant that has 2+ years of experience in municipal accounting to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Santa Ana area.

As a Senior Accounting Assistant, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Review contractor invoices for accuracy and compliance with project milestones.
• Ensure proper documentation and approvals before processing payments.
• Maintain up-to-date financial records for construction projects.
• Generate reports on encumbrances, expenditures, and budget tracking.
• Reconcile construction-related expenses with the general ledger.
• Monitor and report any discrepancies or overages in project budgets.
• Ensure all financial transactions follow governmental accounting standards.
• Process adjusting, opening, and closing entries as needed.

As a Senior Accounting Assistant, you will have:

• Coursework or degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• At least 2 years in accounting, preferably in a governmental or municipal
• Proficiency in financial software, spreadsheets, and database management
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance with finance procedures
• Effective communication skills to interact with vendors
• Preferred: Knowledge of construction progress payment and contract financial tracking
• Preferred: Training in governmental accounting methods
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
• Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
