Traffic/Transportation Engineer

Job Description
The Traffic/Transportation Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in overseeing traffic and transportation related duties that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Engineer that has 4+ years of experience in engineering, including experience directing the work of others. The position will be on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Whittier area.
Projects may include:
- Studies – analysis related to signage, striping and signals
- Traffic Signal Upgrades
- Project Funding Development from Federal and State Sources
- Curb Safety Program – ADA and Curb Color Safety Program
As a Traffic/Transportation Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supervision of staff and seamless coordination with other City departments to ensure efficient execution of public works projects.
- Oversight of the preparation of construction plans, estimates, and design documents for impactful infrastructure initiatives.
- Acting as a technical mentor by offering engineering expertise, resolving complex issues, and facilitating solutions between staff and external partners.
- Developing and tracking project schedules and budgets, ensuring timely delivery and fiscal responsibility while preparing progress reports.
- Analysis of technical studies and reports, conducting engineering assessments, and presenting findings through clear, professional communication.
- Serving as a liaison for engineering activities—partnering with internal departments, outside agencies, and the public to address questions and concerns.
- Leading design efforts for capital improvement projects, overseeing consultant work, and conducting quality reviews and cost estimates to bring projects to life.
- Budgeting efforts and supporting the financial planning of the Engineering Division.
Job Requirements
As a Traffic/Transportation Engineer, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field
- Four years of progressively responsible, professional experience, including experience in directing the work of others involved in engineering project activities
- Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE)
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineers who bring diverse perspectives and problem-solving approaches to projects and tasks
- Proven ability to lead and contribute to engineering design and construction management programs, while effectively guiding and collaborating with multidisciplinary technical and support teams.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
