Principal Engineer
Job Description
The Principal Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in municipal water system planning, design, and construction that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Engineer that has 10+ years of experience in water or wastewater engineering to work on-site and full-time (approximately 30-40 hours per week) in the Palmdale area.
Projects may include:
- Pure Water Program – Construction of an Advanced Water Treatment Facility
As a Principal Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage water infrastructure construction projects from bid advertising through contract award, including specifications, addenda, and agenda staff reports.
- Lead complex engineering work for water production, transmission, distribution, pumping, and storage systems.
- Resolve advanced engineering challenges and maintain/update design, material, and construction standards.
- Oversee engineering staff and perform senior-level design work such as CIP delivery, utility relocations, plan/spec preparation, cost estimating, grading, and hydraulic modeling.
- Plan and supervise team workloads, ensuring safe practices, quality control, training, and timely project completion.
- Serve as the engineering liaison with agencies such as local municipalities, County Public Works, and Caltrans to coordinate capital projects.
- Review technical studies and reports, conduct engineering analyses, and prepare staff/status reports and correspondence.
- Interpret and enforce codes, plans, and specifications; determine ROW/easement needs; evaluate bids, coordinate inspections, and approve progress payments.
- Support contract negotiation, administration, and compliance with agency and project requirements.
- Perform plan checks, field engineering support, and manage engineering document scheduling, signing, archiving, and record updates.
Job Requirements
As a Principal Engineer, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or other related Engineering field
- At minimum, 10 years of progressively responsible professional municipal experience in water and/or wastewater engineering, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
- Strongly Preferred: Licensed California Professional Civil Engineer (PE)
- Experience with the methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments, record keeping, and report preparation
- Experience with SCADA systems, instrumentation, and control logic commonly used in municipal water systems
- Experience with project delivery methods and construction phase processes including submittal review, change orders, and contract closeout
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
