Job Description
The Pretreatment Permit Writer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in compliance with federal, state, and local wastewater pretreatment regulations that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a Pretreatment Permit Writer that has 5+ years of direct experience in pretreatment or source control permitting, to work hybrid (on-site and remote) and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Whittier area.
As a Pretreatment Permit Writer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Draft, review, and issue industrial wastewater discharge permits under the agency’s approved Pretreatment Program and applicable local ordinances.
- Evaluate permit applications, process data, and analytical results to determine appropriate discharge limits and monitoring requirements.
- Review engineering reports, wastewater sampling data, and facility information to assess compliance with federal and state pretreatment standards.
- Prepare written findings, staff reports, and correspondence to regulated industries regarding permit conditions, renewal schedules, and compliance plans.
- Maintain accurate permit tracking and compliance documentation in databases or permit management systems.
- Work with facility representatives, municipal staff, and regulatory agencies to communicate requirements, findings, and corrective actions.
- May include occasional light inspection duties.
Job Requirements
As a Pretreatment Permit Writer, you will have:
- Minimum 5 years of direct pretreatment or source control compliance or wastewater permitting experience with a municipal agency, sanitation district, or regulatory body
- Familiarity with EPA pretreatment program regulations and local discharge ordinances
- Experience with technical report writing, data interpretation, and permit management systems
- Professional demeanor when interacting with industry representatives and municipal staff
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
