Job Description

The Permit Technician selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in municipal public work permit services that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a Technician to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Chino area. 

As a Municipal Permit Services Technician, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the public counter and via phone or email for inquiries related to engineering permits, regulations, and department services.
  • Provide courteous and accurate information to homeowners, contractors, developers, and the general public regarding permit application requirements, procedures, and project status.
  • Receive and review simple permit applications such as encroachment, sidewalk, utility work, or minor grading permits for completeness and compliance with established guidelines.
  • Input application data into permit tracking or asset management software.
  • Forward submitted applications, drawings, and supplemental materials to the appropriate staff or departments for technical review.
  • Monitor application status and provide follow-up support to applicants as needed to facilitate processing.

Job Requirements

As a Municipal Permit Services Technician, you will have:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certification in planning, public works, or construction administration is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering is a plus.
  • Preferred: One (1) year of customer service, clerical, or technical experience in a permitting, engineering, or planning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with permitting software is a plus.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
