Job Description

The Junior Wastewater Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in sewer design and construction that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. This is a highly coveted position with a well-respected public agency that offers long-term stability. We are looking for a Civil Engineer that has 1+ years of experience in wastewater engineering to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Los Angeles area. 

As a Junior Wastewater Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop of primary and secondary sewer master plans and concept reports that drive innovative design and construction projects.
  • Prepare project packages for Difficult Access Reaches (DAR), making complex sewer systems accessible and efficient.
  • Get involved in extending sewer systems to properties currently using septic tanks—helping to modernize communities and learning about real-world infrastructure solutions.
  • Collaborate with the other internal departments to bring to life crucial sewer renewal and relief projects, ensuring seamless implementation.
  • Conduct Sewer Capacity Availability Reviews (SCAR) and handle CEQA responses, playing a vital role in ensuring the city’s sewer infrastructure supports growth.
  • Perform field investigations and desktop research, collecting and analyzing data that will be key to project success.
  • Assess and evaluate the health of sewer systems using advanced CCTV inspection, ensuring structural and operational excellence.
  • Provide expertise and support in the development, calibration, and application of hydraulic, treatment process, and/or odor models.
  • Provide expertise and support in the development and maintenance of databases and related applications for sewer condition assessment, hydraulic assessment, flow projection, Inflow/Infiltration (I/I) analysis, and various hydraulic models

Job Requirements

As a Junior Wastewater Engineer, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related
  • Experience with wastewater or sewer projects, including sewer capacity and sewer condition assessments, and hydraulic modeling
  • Preferred: Experience in sewer or stormwater modeling
  • Preferred: Experience with Mike URBAN modeling software
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
