Interim City Engineer
Job Description
Project Partners is seeking an Interim City Engineer with 15+ years of experience to assist our public client in the Palmdale area. The position will be hybrid on-site/remote and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week).
The Interim City Engineer duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Direct all City activities involving civil engineering, land surveying, project management, and construction; closely coordinate this work with input from other departments and divisions within the City.
- Supervise and participate in a variety of professional engineering work, including the preparation of plans and project specifications; direct and/or coordinate project inspections; draft ordinances according to general instruction.
- Supervise and participate in the review of plans; evaluate compliance with laws, ordinances, and acceptable engineering standards, and recommend corrections or improvements; supervise the preparation of legal descriptions and deeds for easements and rights-of-way; approve and sign tentative and final subdivision maps.
- Prepare and evaluate requests for proposals relating to projects requiring contract engineering work; direct the preparation of project cost estimates for competitive bidding purposes; review plans of consulting/engineering firms performing work for the City and evaluate performance; perform construction contract modifications and negotiate contract changes and change order costs.
- Make presentations to City committees, commissions, and City Council.
- Investigate, analyze, and apply for various grants and other funding sources.

Job Requirements
The Interim City Engineer will have:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or closely related field
- Required: Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE)
- Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in civil or other applicable engineering field, including experience in a responsible administrative or management capacity
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
