Job Description
The Instrumentation Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in delivering advanced instrumentation and automation solutions that support landfill gas collection that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Instrumentation Engineer that has 10+ years of experience in renewable energy or solid waste to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Orange County area.
This is a long-term consulting opportunity ideal for professionals passionate about sustainable engineering, smart landfill systems, and working at the intersection of public infrastructure and environmental innovation.
As an Instrumentation Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Support landfill renewable energy and gas/liquid collection systems through technical review and system planning
- Assist in executing Smart Landfill Program (SLP) projects including automation, remote monitoring, and I&C systems
- Review and develop plans, technical specifications, and project documents
- Support implementation of SCADA, PLCs, and control systems across landfill facilities
- Collaborate with other staff, consultants, contractors, and energy partners to advance project goals
- Aid in the development of landfill-specific master plans for long-term gas collection and compliance
- Help to resolve landfill gas-related compliance issues and support coordination with regulatory bodies
Job Requirements
As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will have:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering
- At least 10 years of engineering experience in renewable energy, solid waste, or instrumentation/control systems
- Strong working knowledge of GCCS (Gas Collection and Control Systems), including design, compliance, and operations
- Familiarity with P&IDs, SLDs, and technical specifications related to facility controls
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
Preferred:
- California EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience working with public sector agencies or utility-scale energy systems
- Background in SCADA systems, smart infrastructure, or automation integration
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience with regulatory agencies (e.g., SCAQMD, CalRecycle) and environmental compliance
