Job Description

The GIS Engineering Technician selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in enterprise geodatabase management that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a GIS Engineering Technician that has 10+ years of professional GIS experience to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Laguna Beach area. 

As a GIS Engineering Technician, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and administer the agency’s enterprise geodatabase
  • Ensure GIS data governance, integrity, QA/QC standards, and mapping accuracy
  • Clean, restructure, and manage legacy and current GIS datasets and mapping layers
  • Support implementation of the GIS Strategic Plan (database-focused components)
  • Coordinate with IT regarding GIS system infrastructure and support
  • Prepare and update standard details, facility maps, construction plans, and as-built drawings for in-house water infrastructure projects
  • Provide drafting and layout support for engineering design tasks
  • Support minor plan reviews, development coordination, and utility/easement verification
  • Research, update, and maintain engineering records, documentation, and reporting

Job Requirements

As a GIS Engineering Technician, you will have:

  • 10+ years of professional GIS experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining enterprise or large-scale GIS databases, performing GIS database governance, conducting GIS QA/QC audits, and cleaning, restructuring and improving legacy GIS datasets
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcMap and/or ArcGIS
  • Familiarity with water, utilities, or public works infrastructure mapping
  • Preferred: Experience drafting civil or infrastructure plans using AutoCAD
  • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in GIS, Engineering Technology Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
