Job Description

The Deputy Design Manager selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in water/wastewater facility design oversight and management that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Engineer that has 10+ years of experience in wastewater engineering to work hybrid (on-site and remote) and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Los Angeles area. 

Projects may include:

  • Various Wastewater Design Projects
  • Wastewater Treatment Facilities
  • Wastewater Conveyance Facilities

As a Deputy Design Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, schedules, and conducts engineering design work for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Supervises and provides technical guidance to a team of engineers and professional staff.
  • Manages multiple design projects concurrently, ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Initiates and maintains effective communication with internal staff, external partners, and key engineers involved in project delivery.
  • Identifies the need for specialized consultant services and oversees consultant selection, contract management, and performance.
  • Coordinates design activities with operations, maintenance, construction, and other agency departments.
  • Ensures project compliance with agency standards, engineering best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

As a Deputy Design Manager, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field
  • At minimum, 10 years of wastewater engineering experience
  • Preferred: Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Demonstrated experience with managing medium sized projects with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Ability to evaluate progress of staff and results obtained
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
