Associate Engineer
Job Description
The Associate Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in municipal water system planning, design, and construction that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an Engineer that has 4+ years of experience in a water facility or civil engineering to work on-site and full-time (approximately 30-40 hours per week) in the Palmdale area.
Projects may include:
- Pure Water Program – Construction of an Advanced Water Treatment Facility
As an Associate Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with engineering and design work for the construction, operation, and maintenance of water system facilities, including mains, pump stations, reservoirs, pressure regulating stations, and treatment plants.
- Inspect water and wastewater infrastructure (storm drains, sewers, hydrants, meters, service/fire lines, and cross-connection devices) and verify compliance through follow-up inspections.
- Support system operations using SCADA, including monitoring flows/pressures and recommending adjustments to meet demand, fire flow, and minimum pressure requirements.
- Review project plans, cost estimates, and environmental reports; prepare contracts, specifications, bid documents, and engineering cost estimates; support contract administration and inspections.
- Coordinate preparation of funding applications and reporting for awarded grants.
- Assist with technical studies, issue analysis, and preparation of staff/status reports and correspondence.
- Perform plan checks for Water Improvement Plans.
- Serve as liaison with contractors by monitoring construction progress, coordinating inspections, reviewing invoices/progress payments, and preparing change orders as needed.
- Support contract negotiations, scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring work meets standards and project requirements.
- Attend meetings and participate in discussions on engineering projects and activities as assigned.
Job Requirements
As an Associate Engineer, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or other related Engineering field
- At minimum, 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience in a water facility or civil engineering
- Strongly Preferred: Licensed California Professional Civil Engineer (PE)
- Experience with the methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments
- Experience with project budget development and administration
- Experience with water utility system components and operations, and engineering drafting and design practices
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
