Assistant Engineering Director

Job Description
The Assistant Engineering Director selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in public works capital improvement projects that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a professionally licensed Civil Engineer that has 15+ years of experience in plan checking and working with developers to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the Encinitas area.
As an Assistant Engineering Director, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide oversight for capital project design and construction for various projects related to roadway, pipeline, rail, and beach pedestrian ways. Also oversee developer projects related to utilities, infrastructure and roadway improvements, and traffic projects related to signals, curbs and traffic plan review.
- Plans, directs, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the work for assigned staff.
- Ensure developers design and construct per municipal code requirements and process permits.
- Provide Traffic Control Plan review.
- Develop staff reports and present to the City Council and committees.
- Prepare written descriptions of program and project information to be included on the public website.
Job Requirements
As an Assistant Engineering Director, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field
- Required: Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE)
- Required: experience in assisting a Director of Engineering or City Engineer, design and construction of public works projects, and providing direction to developers related to the municipal code
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
