Job Description
The Senior Water Operations Supervisor selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in water operations that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for a Water Operations Supervisor that has 5+ years of experience in water operations to work hybrid (on-site and remote) and part-time (approximately 20-25 hours per week) in the Cerritos area.
Projects may include:
- Cross Connection Program – GIS Data input
- Water Conservation Program
- Oversight of Water Sampling Scheduling & Reporting
- SCADA operation
As a Senior Water Operations Supervisor, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and oversee water sample scheduling and collection to support compliance and system reliability.
- Maintain daily records of Water Division activities, including State-required reporting.
- Work with outside agencies and departments on water use agreements and project coordination.
- Operate well pumps and pumping stations manually and through the SCADA system when needed.
- Plan and assign daily work for Water Division staff to keep operations running smoothly.
- Lead and support construction, maintenance, and operations activities that ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality water service.
- Supervise and participate in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and recycled water lines, fire hydrants, services, pumps, SCADA equipment, reservoirs, sewer lift stations, and related facilities.
- Assist in reviewing development and construction plans to confirm compliance with City standards.
- Provide guidance to residents and businesses on water service connections, usage, and water quality.
- Inspect work sites to verify safe practices, correct materials, and quality installation.
- Oversee the installation and operation of recycled water systems.
- Respond to emergency calls for production system maintenance and repair; may act as incident commander in hazardous material situations.
- Handle public inquiries or service requests with professionalism and clear communication.
Job Requirements
As a Senior Water Operations Supervisor, you will have:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil or Chemical Engineering, Public Health, Water Science, or related
- At minimum, 5 years of experience in water production and distribution, pump station operation, construction installation, maintenance and water quality sampling of water systems and proficiency in operating a water system through a SCADA system
- Possession of a valid Water Distribution Certificate (D4), and a valid Water Treatment Certificate (T2) issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
