Assistant Civil Engineer

Job Description
The Assistant Engineer selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in public works capital improvement projects that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain key, sought-after public sector jobs. We are looking for an entry level Civil Engineer to work on-site and full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the El Segundo area.
As an Assistant Civil Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist on public works projects, such as street improvements (sidewalks, streets, curbs and gutter), water infrastructure, facilities/buildings, and parks.
- Conduct field inspections of construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications and construction and safety standards.
- Recommend corrections or revisions to plans and prepare conditions of approval.
- Review development plans for small/basic private construction projects in the City right-of-way.
- Issue permits and collect fees.
- Provide information and investigate complaints and service requests.
- Conduct research and prepare reports and recommendations related to civil engineering projects, capital improvement projects, and other specialized studies.
- Provide limited technical expertise to other agencies and the public.
- Perform survey work alone or as part of a survey crew.
- Reviews basic environmental assessments, environmental impact reports, tract and parcel maps, variances, and conditional use permits.
Job Requirements
As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to public works, and methods and techniques used in the preparation of engineering project designs and related plans and specifications
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
- Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance
